Waqf board starts functioning again

MLA of Wabagai AC, Md Fajur Rahim has staled that he has taken charge as the Chairman of Waqf board with effect from today.
It may be recalled that Waqf board has been lying defunct and recently began functioning following the approval of High Court of Manipur.
Speaking to media persons at a press meet held at the board's office in Hatta Minuthong, the MLA stated that the board was dissolved on March 1 owing to some issues by the Government.
A petition was filed to the High Court of Manipur to investigate into the issue, he said while adding that the High Court disapproved the order issued by the Govt to dissolve the board on March 23 .
A final hearing was held on May 4 and the judgement was kept on reserve till May 18 and on that day, the High Court of Manipur provided its judgement and rejected the order of the State Govt, the MLA added.
Md Fajur Rahim further said that copies of the final judgement weresubmitted to Chief Secretary, MOBC Secretary and Director Waqf board.
However, he added, the office Of the board was found shut using Government's machineries.
Following the situation, a notice was issued on the same day (May 18) and accordingly a meeting was held today in which the waqf members filed a report to police.
Later, the police personnel opened the lock on office of board, he added.
