Imphal, January 24 2019:
Highway Truck Owners Welfare Organisation has appealed to the Transporters and Drivers Council (TDC) and All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Works Union to refrain from making unfounded allegations and attempting to guide the people in the wrong light.
Speaking to media persons at a location in Imphal today, the HITOWO information and public relation secretary Brojendro Konthoujam said that the drivers and transporters know that it is imperative for a weight bridge to be present for the welfare of all.
HITOWO began operation of a weight bridge along Imphal-Jiribam road since January 1.The organisation will also construct a similar weight bridge at Sekmai for the Imphal-Dimapur road at the earliest, he added.
Urging the TDC and All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Works Unior to refrain from spreading baseless rumours and allegations, Jrojendro appealed the associations to meet on a common platform and come to a mutual understanding/agreement for the welfare of the drivers and the transporters.
He informed that the Transport Department will soon call a joint meeting for all the transporters and drivers and appealed the TDC and All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Works Union to take part in the meeting as well.
He then asked why the TDC and the All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Works Union have not uttered any word when it comes to the RD weight bridge at Mantripukhri.
Meanwhile saying that severe conflicts have erupted over different transport organisations on the Jiribam weight bridge, the Manipur Drivers Welfare Association (MDWA) has sought immediate intervention of the State Government.
Speaking to media persons at their Sagolband Meino Leirak office, MDWA president Babudhon Saikhuba pointed out that as per an order issued by the State Government, trucks with six axles can carry 16.2 tonnes, trucks with 10 axles 24.6 tonnes while trucks with 12 axles can carry 28.800 tonnes on Imphal-Jiribam highway.
Trucks can no longer ply on Imphal-Jiribam highway without weight slips.
As such, trucks are being weighed at the FCI godown or the weight bridge inaugurated by the Highway Truck Owners Welfare Organisation (HTOWO) at Jiribam on January 1 this year.
