Imphal, June 22 2021:
Condemning the alleged arbitrary detention of political activist Yumnam Shanta, who is planning to contest in the next assembly election in Keirao A/C, and slapping charges under the National Security Act (NSA) on him, womenfolk of Kiyamgei Mamang and Awang Leikai, Keirao Makting, Lilong Arapti Mapan and Khoirom Leikai staged sit-in demonstration at Kiyamgei Maning Leikai community hall on Monday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, Shanta's daughter Nganthoi recalled that he (Shanta) was arrested by police on June 5 but granted bail by a court on June 14 .
Even after securing the bail, he was rearrested and detained under NSA in a politically motivated act, the daughter alleged and asked authorities concerned to explain the rationale for detention of her father under the NSA.
Nganthoi called for stopping arbitrary arrest of innocent people and demanded release her father at the earliest.
Regardless of her husband's arrest, his wife Mombi Leima distributed edible items to households in Kiyamgei Maning Leikai, Mayai Leikai and Awang Leikai which have been declared as containment zone.
She stated that her husband had been working tirelessly for the welfare of people of the constituency and strongly condemned his detention under NSA even after granting bail by the court.
Asserting that her husband is innocent, Mombi demanded release of her husband without any further delay.
