Dimapur, March 22 2018:
The Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) has urged the Government of India "to restore ceasefire" with the NSCN-K and initiate political negotiation with that outfit "so as to eventually bring all Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) the to negotiating the table for an inclusive talk" .
The NTC also said that the latest statement of the NSCN-K which said that the outfit is "not averse to peace" is a positive gesture.
According to the NTC, a report on the NSCN-K in the local media that the outfit is "not averse to peace", including its posture for peaceful approach for resolving the Naga political issue is a positive gesture.
The NTC termed the latest statement of the NSCN-K as "a timely response to the calls of the people" .
The NTC stated that it "welcomes such magnanimity and once again appeal to the Government of India to restore ceasefire and initiate political negotiation with NSCN-K so as to eventually bring all Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) to the negotiating table for an inclusive talk.
"As much as the Nagas had suffered from political turmoil for years together, that much the Nagas deserve to live in peace", the NTC stated.
According to the NTC, in the 60s, the Nagas had "tasted peace that was the outcome of ceasefire between Government and Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN), but "it abruptly ended" .
The NTC then stated, "today, we have been under ceasefires for the last two decades, and yet the Nagas continue to long for peace since we do not enjoy the real peace in the prevailing situation".
The main reason being that all the Naga political groups are not having ceasefire with the Government of India, according to the NTC.
"And that is our common anxiety", the NTC added.
