Section 144 Cr PC to be imposed in Thoubal during Dol Jatra festival

Thoubal, February 22 2018: District Magistrate Thoubal Haobam Rosita today issued an order to impose section 144 Cr PC in 'public interest' during the Dol Jatra festival which starts from March 2 .

The District Magistrate's order does not mention any clear reason for imposing section 144 but said: "�there is apprehension of breach of peace in Thoubal district�by some anti social elements taking advantage of the forthcoming Dol Jatra Festival which falls on 2nd March" .

Under the Sub-Section 2 of Section 144 Cr PC of 1973, assembly of five or more persons is unlawful and prohibited.

The order however will not apply to agencies/officials of Government involved in enforcement of law and order and the maintenance of essential services, said the order.

The prohibition order will be enforced in whole of the Thoubal district the order said.
