Ibobi opens Tribal Market

Inaugurated last' year by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, the opening function of the newly constructed Tribal market located at New Lambulane was held today with Chief Minister O ibobi Singh as chief guest.
Speaking at the occasion, the Chief Minister said that although the market was inaugurated by UPA chairperson in November 2010, it could not be open in time due to incompletion of some construction works.
He maintained that opening of such market would help the tribal womenfolk who sold vegetables and other goods to overcome their challenges in finding proper place.
Appealing to the people for preserving the market, the Chief Minister further highlighted about the Government's discussion to initiate similar market at Chingmeirong Adim Jati area.
He also said that the Government has decided to build a community hall on the upper side of the market for addressing the needs of the people of the area.
Organised by Directorate of Tribal Affairs and Hills Manipur, H Dilipkumar Singh, the director of the department, said that the new market has 636 vendors including 582 vendors for selling vegetables, hand-loom and handicraft items where 54 are for selling fish and meat products.
The director said that the department would prohibit butchering of animals for meat inside the market complex.
Attended by ADC chairpersons, former MLA and department officials from Ukhrul and Senapati districts, the Chief Minister also distributed vendor licenses to the owners.
