Imphal, August 21 2012:
Naga People's Movement for Human Rights-south sector (NPMHR-S) and Rongmei Council of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland have expressed serious concerns in separate press communiques over the August 17 Tamenglong district killing of Zeliangrong Students' Union, Manipur (ZSUM) secretary Chunthuigai Kamei and NSCN-IM cadre Jianao.
On Tuesday, the Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights-South sector (NPMHR-S) said that the rights body is forced to conclude that organizations indulging in such cowardly criminal acts targeting civilians, particularly community leaders are against peace, unity and working against the interest of the Naga people.
"Further, this murderous act, coming closely on the heels of the torture perpetrated by NSCN-K cadres on women, youth leaders, and aged elders of Haochong and Phallong villages indicate that there is complete disregard for the rule of law, justice, and human rights within the organisation," the NPMHR-South sector fumes.
It then stated that the NPMHR would like to remind everyone that a mature society or nation is never founded on irresponsible acts of murder and bloodshed.
Such senseless acts never define nationalism, it added.
NPMHR calls upon each and every armed organisation to respect human rights and refrain from using violent means.
"Accountable mechanisms also have to be put into place and unjustifiable acts should be strongly dealt with," NPMHR asserted.
Meanwhile, the Rongmei Council of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland while condemning the killing the ZSUM leader and an NSCN-IM cadre in the strongest term, has appealed all the armed groups to shun the violent activities immediately.
It further appeals that all the armed groups should join hands to bring peace, unity and tranquility in order to have a "new social order in our land" .
It then expressed deep concern and anguish at the 'barbaric' action of 'senseless' killing of ' innocent' student leader Chunthuigai Kamei who was the secretary of Zeliangrong Students Union, Manipur (ZSUM) and also the fratricide factional killing of Jianao of NSCN-IM on August 17 Luangkau (Nungkao) and Lantaanlung of Phaaluang village at Tausang village of Tamenglong district.
Thuankubei Pamei who is the president of Rongmei Council alleged that both the persons were killed in cold blood by "unidentified armed cadres" in violation of people's initiative for peace, tranquility and unity among the people.
