Rajiv Gandhi's birth anniversary observed

Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee has observed 74th' birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at the premises of Congress Bhawan, Imphal today.
President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee TN Haokip, former Chief Minister and Congress leader Okram Ibobi, former Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Congress MLAs, office bearers of the MPCC, Congress Councillors and workers attended the observance.
Speaking at the event, Okram Ibobi recalled the late Gandhi's efforts and achievements as a National leader.
He was keen in developing science.and technology, he said.
The anti-defection law was added to the Constitution as the tenth schedule by the 52nd amendment during Rajiv Gandhi's tenure" as the Pfirhe Minister in 1985 to check frequent defection by legislators.
Universal adult franchise and other landmarks are results of his leadership, he said.
Congress leaders and workers paid floral tributes to the photo of the former Prime Minister.
Rajiv Gandhi, born on August 20, 1944, was the seventh Prime Minister of India from 1984 to 1989 .
He took office after the 1984 assassination of his mother and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
He was the youngest Prime Minister of India at 40.He was assassinated by a suicide bomber in 1991 at a public meeting in
Tamil Nadu's Sriperumbudur.
