Train cargo service up to Khongsang from May 25

Keeping in view of the issues faced in bringing consumer goods due to blocking of highway owing to various reasons including natural calamities, cargo trains of Indian Railways will start transportation of consumer goods up to the recently inaugurated Khongsang railway station in Noney district from May 25 onwards.
The official information in this regard was provided to union minister of state for external affairs and education Dr RK Ranjan by union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Mention may be made that Khongsang railway station was inaugurated recently and the first trial run of the goods train arrived at the station on January 27 from Rani Gaidinliu railway station, Tamenglong district after covering a distance of 56 kilometres.
According to the Railway Ministry , the move will give a major boost to the trade and economy of the north eastern state of Manipur.
Another 111 km is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 14,000 crore by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR).
The new railway line will have 46 tunnels, including the second largest 12 km single tube tunnel in the Indian railways network and 153 bridges.
One of the bridges under construction - Noney bridge across the valley of River Ijai, will be the world's tallest girder railway bridge with a height of 141 metres when completed.
According to the Ministry of Railways, the Jiribam-Imphal railway line, once completed, will reduce the travel time of 10-12 hours to a mere 2.5 hours.
With the first freight train reaching Manipur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also said that this will enhance the state's commerce and connectivity as goods from here will be able to reach all parts of the country.
