Imphal, January 19 2025:
Amidst the prevailing unrest situation, Manipur police personnel and teams are facing administrative obstacles in discharging duties round the clock due to non-release of fuel allocation for over a week.
According to a reliable source, fuel allocation for police stations and commando units of different districts under the home department used to be processed on daily basis or monthly.
However, cessation of the same for more than a week is affecting the police personnel in performing their assigned tasks.
Though team commanders bear fuel money for VIP/ WIP or ROP duties from own sources, stoppage of requisite fuel allocation for more than a week is creating huge issues for the commanders.
During normal time, team commanders and personnel used to bear maintenance cost of allotted vehicle but are now bearing both maintenance cost of their vehicle and for refuelling.
The source further informed that fuel allocation for a vehicle of police station or unit is 150 litres per month.
Government provides not more than two vehicles for one police station but more vehicles are required for IOs to conduct investigation.
As fuel for additional vehicles used by a police station is not counted by the department, IO of the case or officer-in-charge of police station usually bears the cost fuel used for vehicle in field investigation.
In addition to this, fuel problem deepens as and when police personnel are deployed for VIP movement and ROP duties.
Despite facing acute fuel problem, personnel of police stations and commando units are performing their duties, the source said adding that the existing fuel problem is caused by non-appointment of IGP (administration) after the officer holding the post retired more than a week.
