Man dies in accident, CSOs threaten truck ban

Kangpokpi, January 19 2022:
A 23-year old man from Keithelmanbi Military Colony died after an Imphal-bound truck reportedly hit him along the National Highway 2 at Keithelmanbi on Wednesday early morning.
The man reportedly died on the spot.
The deceased identified as Paotinseh Chongloi(23), s/o of Pasei Chongloi and Chinkhochong Chongloi of Keithelmanbi, was a member of 24x7 Bible Reading called 'Guitanlou Bible Sim' at Keithelmanbi Military Colony for the past many years.
He was a graduate student waiting result of the MA entrance examination of MU.
The incident happened while Paotinseh, after finishing his Bible reading at the Church as per the roaster, was going to drop a friend off between 2 am and 4 am.
The truck reportedly fled the scene after hitting Paotinseh.
In connection with the incident, civil society organisations of Kangpokpi spearheaded by Kuki Students' Organisation, Sadar Hills decided to impose a total ban on all commercial trucks plying along the National Highway 2 from January 21 .
Speaking to media persons in front of Kangpokpi Police Station on Wednesday afternoon, Thangtinlen Haokip, general secretary KSO Sadar Hills', asserted that if the accused fails to surrender within 24 hours, CSOs of Kangpokpi under the aegis of KSO Sadar Hills will impose a total bandh on all commercial trucks plying along the National Highway 2 from midnight of January 21 .
He also urged the state government to look into the matter very seriously and book the culprit within the stipulated time while appealing to the people of Manipur to understand the situation as there is no other option other than imposing ban on all commercial trucks if the culprit fails to surrender or the police fail to arrest him.
The KSO Sadar Hills leader further urged the people of Manipur to extend support and cooperation in finding out the culprit and solving the matter amicably.
He also said that the body of Paotinseh Chongloi has been deposited at the morgue, adding that "we will not claim the body till the culprit surrenders or is booked by the police" .
