Minorities Rights Day observed in state

The Minorities Rights Day was observed under the auspices of Manipur State Minorities Commission at Kangla Hall here today.
The function was graced by Md Abdul Nasir, Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries and Md Amin Shah, Parliamentary Secretary in charge of MOBC, SC and Science & Technology as Chief Guest and President respectively.
A Halim Chowdhuri, Member of Manipur State Minorities Commission; MLA of Wabgai A/C Md Fajur Rahim; Prof MS Ningomba, Member of Manipur State Minorities Commission and Rev N Debendra Singh, who is also a Member of Manipur State Minorities Commission were present on the occasion as Guests of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Md Abdul Nasir said that India is the biggest democratic country in the world where a number of ethnic communities live together as one.
Of the total population of the country, 20% belong to minority groups.
If this section of the people is not developed, India cannot claim itself to be a developed country.
As such, for a society to be developed, all ethnic communities need to be developed at par.
Pointing out that three persons from among minority Muslims have been the Presidents of India, Minister Md Abdul Nasir noted that Manipur too had a Muslim Chief Minister.
However, the living condition of Muslims in Manipur continues to remain low.
So, there is the need to pay special attention for improving the living condition of the Muslims in Manipur, the Minister added.
