5th Death anniversary of noted singer N Pahari observed

The 5th Death Anniversary of noted Manipuri singer Nongmaithem Pahari was observed with floral tributes to the photograph of N Pahari as a mark of respect to the departed soul at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace compound today.
The function was organized by Nongmaithem Pahari Memorial Trust.
Lifetime Achievement Award was conferred to noted singer Aheibam Budhachandra on the occasion.
The award carries a cash prize of Rs 25,000/- citation and a shawl.
Speaking on the occasion, Thoidingjam Tombi, National Lalit Kala Academy Awardee said that lyrics is life and music is the soul.
Pahari's melodious songs are still heard and are on the lips of every individual even today.
Melodious songs which have a soothing effect on the life of the people is much needed in today's trouble torn Manipuri society.
He further went on to say that there should be provisions of introducing music as a separate course.
Research work should also be carried out by introducing music at the University and other Higher education level.
Speaking on the occasion B Jayentakumar Sharma, President of Nongmaithem Pahari Memorial Trust said that there are various peculiar qualities of modern songs.
The modern songs sung by the then eminent artists are still popular.
But now contemporary songs have engulfed the Manipuri society.
But this, unfortunately cannot be taken as representive of Manipuri songs.
As part of the function, prizes of the Pahari Ningshing Sheidannaba 2011 were also distributed.
Oinam Romen of Thanga Lawai, Chungkham Sangeeta of Thongju and Heisnam Bidyaluxmi of Keirenphabi mayai Leikai bagged the first, second and third prize respectively.
The winners were presented with a cash price of Rs 20,000, 15,000 and 10,000 respectively.
