Wangoi tense after rice fiasco

Imphal, July 18 2022: Uneasy calm prevailed in Khaidem-Iram Siphai area of Wangoi assembly constituency in Imphal West district on Monday after supporters of incumbent Wangoi MLA Kh Loken protested appointment of Fair Price Shop agents from among nominees of ex-MLA O Lukhoi.

As per information received here, NFSA rice distribution in Khaidem-Iram Siphai area of Wangoi AC could not be made after supporters of MLA Kh Loken strongly protested rice distribution by Fair Price Shop agents nominated exMLA O Lukhoi.

It is said that three out of six Fair Price Shop agents of Wangoi are nominated by the ex-MLA and the remaining three by incumbent MLA Kh Loken.

Infuriated over the appointment of ex-MLA's nominees as Fair Price Shop agents, supporters of MLA Kh Loken stopped rice distribution in Khaidem-Iram Siphai area covered by exMLA O Lukhoi's nominees and strongly alleged CAD & PD department's violation of norms in appointment of rice agents.

MLA Kh Loken's supporters demanded that the rice agents be appointed from incumbent MLA's nominees and not from nominees of former MLA.

As some women of both the groups engaged in a heated exchange of words, Wangoi police intervened and managed to control the situation but rice distribution in the area could not be made for the day.
