Dimapur, July 18 2014 :
The Government of India's Cease Fire Monitoring Group (CFMG) has said that its jurisdiction is only in Nagaland and has nothing to do with happenings in Manipur pertaining to NSCN-IM activities.
Talking to Newmai News Network this morning at Chumukedima Police Complex, Dimapur on the sideline of the routine meeting with NSCN-K, Government of India's CFMG chairman Lieutenant General (Rtd) NK Singh said the prevailing situation in Manipur's Ukhrul town has nothing to do with him.
He however, expressed concern that the situation if worsens further can affect the situation in Nagaland too.
The prevailing situation in Ukhrul was triggered after former vice chairman of Autonomous District Council (ADC), Ukhrul district and sitting member of the council Ngalangzar Malue, 60 years, was killed along Imphal-Ukhrul road on July 12 by suspected militants.
The Manipur Government, based on the intelligence reports, has blamed NSCN-IM but the latter outfit had washed off its hand in the incident.
The following day, Section 144 of the CrPC was promulgated and hundreds of Manipur security force personnel swoop down at the regional office of Wung Tangkhul Region (WTR) of the NSCN-IM in Ukhrul town in the pre-dawn raid picking up 8 cadres of the NSCN-IM and seized the available weapons from the office.
Lieutenant General (Rtd) NK Singh, however, said the concerned authority in Manipur should try to resolve the impasse in Ukhrul town.
"Though I'm very much concerned about the present situation in Ukhrul town I cannot do anything as Ukhrul falls beyond my jurisdiction," Lt Gen (Rtd) NK Singh stated, adding, "My job is to keep the cease fire alive in Nagaland" .
