Joykumar encourages students to develop scientific approach

Imphal, May 18 2018:
National Science Day & International Museums Day, 2018 cum the 13th Anniversary Day of Manipur Science Centre was observed today at the auditorium ofManipur Science Centre, Takyelpat, Imphal West.
The observance function was organised by Department of Science & Technology under the theme "Science & Technology for a Sustainable Future".
Spot painting competitions for school students were also conducted as part of the observance.
Speaking at the function,.
Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar Singh who is also in-charge of Science & Technology said science is all about things and happenings around us and learning sfci-ence is to think and question how things are happening and its relation with the nature.
He said to develop scientific approach, students should try to keep habit of thinking and imagination on how things are happening around us and also try to understand the forces behind it so that scientific temperament comes in mind.
Young minds should also try to understand the laws of nature and its relation with human
beings as well, he added.
Commissioner (Sc & Tech), T Pamei said students should have inquisitive minds to enquire and observe things around them as scientific understanding among the students will help them to develop innovative ideas.
Good scientific background will help them gain new heights in their future life, he added.
Director (Sc & Tech) Elangbam lbocha Singh said National Science Day has been observed every year to instil scientific temperament to the students.
He said the role being played by science and technology in bringing socio economic development is of paramount importance.
Therefore, scientific temperament has to be imbibed among the people especially to the young minds.
He said Manipur Science Centre where many indoor and outdoor science shows are being displayed was set up in 2005 to facilitate students.
Digital Planetarium set up in the campus has also become functional from March this year, he said.
During the function, Deputy Chief Minister Joykumar distributed awards to the students who got positions in the spot painting competitions.
