Imphal, November 16 2021:
In a major twist aftermath of Gaidon Kamei joining the BJP, the party's Nungba Mandal and Nungba Kendra Citizens' Forum have called the former UNC president as a person with anti-Manipur stance and demanded the party leadership not to give him party ticket.
Addressing a joint press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Tuesday, Nungba Kendra Citizens' Forum secretary Sangamlung said that Gaidon Kamei, who is preparing to contest the 2022 state assembly election from Nungba assembly constituency, was the man behind the 139-day economic blockade imposed along the national highways leading to the state in the later part of 2016.The public are well aware how he spoke against the territorial integrity of Manipur when he was the president of UNC.
People of the state have no trust on him that he will speak and stand for the unity and welfare of the state, Sangamlung said, while appealing to the people of Nungba assembly constituency not to support him.
BJP Nungba Mandal president Makuphun Rongmei recalled that an organisation named Progressive Youth Forum Longmai organised a bike rally on November 12 in support of Gaidon Kamei using BJP flag without any information or approval from BJP Nungba Mandal and BJP Manipur Pradesh.
Following the rally, Gaidon Kamei hied police complaint against several individuals including BJP Nungba Mandal leaders with false charges of foiling the bike rally.
Urging the party leadership and the government authority to look into the matter, he pleaded party leaders not to allot party ticket to Gaidon Kamei.
