Imphal, June 16 2021:
Necessary preparations have been made for organising the 20th anniversary of The Great June Uprising Unity Day with strict adherence to Covid SOPs at Kekrupat here on June 18 .
Informing this to the media, observance committee convener Ph Nando Luwang, who is also the president of AMUCO, said that the present crisis of Covid-19 pandemic has forced them to organise the tribute event on a small scale while observing relevant SOPs.
However, the conventional ritual of offering highest form of tributes to the departed souls of the 18 martyrs will continue, he informed.
He appealed to the public to play the song dedicated to the martyrs during 9 am and 10 am in their respective homes as a mark of tribute.
He also appealed to all to reaffirm their stand for the unity and integrity of Manipur.
Nando also recalled how the Bangkok agreement of extending ceasefire between NSCN-IM and GoI sparked spontaneous public uprising and how the June 18 public movement forced the GoI to withdraw the term 'without territorial limit' from the agreement.
UCM president and Observance Committee vice-chairman Sunil Karam said that the June 18 public movement was a historic one and people of the state can never forget the day when they stood against the divisive policy of the GoI as one and witnessed the sacrifices of 18 precious lives.
He also called for unity and integrity among the people of different communities for a strong Manipur.
Since observing the day on a grand scale is not possible due to the pandemic, only the family members and those who would be donating blood along with observance committee members and CSO leaders would be taking part in the commemoration, Sunil Karam said.
He also appealed to the state police to allow free passage to the participants.
