Imphal, February 16 2025:
Opposing imposition of President's Rule in the state, Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), Manipur has advised the BJP legislators to shed aside differences and form a new government by electing a new leader so that President's Rule could be withdrawn.
According to FOCS, the Centre capitalised on disunity among legislators of the ruling party to impose President's Rule under the broader plan by the central government to take full control of state's law and order.
Since the resignation of chief minister N Biren Singh on February 9, the state has been left without a legislative leader.

Instead of facilitating a political resolution, the Centre took full advantage of the political instability imposed President's Rule.
The move is not aimed at restoring peace and normalcy but rather at asserting direct control of the state by the Centre.
According to a FOCS statement, Chin-Kuki-Zo communities continue to challenge the territorial integrity of Manipur for nearly two years.
Amidst the continuing challenge, village volunteers who came out to protect territorial integrity of the state are being targeted and arrested, the FOCS said and maintained that central forces should not arrest village volunteers or harass Meira Paibis.
On the other hand, Marisuba Ima Keithel Lup demanded immediate end to the ongoing tussle for leadership among BJP legislators and instead form a new government by electing a new leader to save Manipur.
Resignation of chief minister at the crucial juncture is unreasonable and BJP legislators must unite together to form a new government in the interest of the people, the Lup said and asked the legislators to sacrifice to save the land from illegal immigrants.
Meanwhile, Meira Paibi organisations of Bamon Leikai staged protest against the imposition of President's Rule in the state on Sunday.
During the protest, slogans against imposition of President's Rule and demand for immediate formation of a new government were raised.
Slogan against the killing and arrest of village volunteers was also chanted at the protest venue.
Nongmeibung Women Development Meira Paibi also staged protest demonstration against the imposition of President's Rule in the state at Nongmeibung multipurpose hall on Sunday and called for a new government by electing a new leader among BJP legislators.
The Challengers Youth of Khundrakpam Assembly Constituency also strongly demanded resolution to the ongoing crisis among BJP MLAs and suggested the party to elect a new leader and form government so that President's Rule could be removed at the earliest.
Similar protest was staged by people of Kongpal area under Kshetrigao assembly constituency at Kongpal Iranpham Thongkhong on Sunday expressing resentment over the resignation of N Biren Singh and imposition of President's Rule (PR) in the state.
The protest held under the banner 'We oppose resignation of CM at a time when Manipur is in precarious state', was participated by meira Paibi groups and members of local clubs of Kongpal Naoroibam Leikai, Kshetri Leikai, Chanam Leikai, Mutum Leikai, Sabal Leikai, Khaidem Leikai, Porompat Muslim, Top Khongnangmakhong and Porompat Thawanthaba Leikai.
