Arms, ammos, bombs recovered from Mongbung Kuki village

In follow up measures after intense firing by Kuki militants from Mongbung Kuki village towards Mongbung Meetei village in Jiribam on Saturday night, which led to a fierce gunfight as the latter resorted to retaliatory firing, security forces recovered large number of arms, ammunition and explosive devices from the Kuki village on Sunday morning.
According to a source in Jiribam district police, suspected Kuki militants launched attack from Mongbung Kuki village towards Mongbung Meetei village on Saturday around 7.30 pm which local village volunteers as well as police retaliated.
However, there was no report of any injury on both sides.
As a follow up measure, the district police comprising additional SP and CDO Unit led by superintendent of police Kh Robinson, along with troops of CRPF led by a DIG, COs of 87 and 156 battalions, deputy commandant of 20 Bn CRPF, and 39 Assam Rifles, Kadamtala launched search operation in the morning in Mongbung Kuki village area.
During the operation, the security teams recovered a .32 pistol with two magazines and four rounds, 11 rounds of 7.62x51 mm, two rounds of 5.56x45 mm, three rounds of 7.62x39 mm, 16 pumpi shells, 560 casings and 11 rounds of 12 bore along with belt, 18 casings of 8 mm ammunition, 105 casings of .303, 45 casings of 7.62x51 mm, 25 casings of 5.56x45 mm, six casings of 7.62x39 mm, two casings of .32, one plastic bag full of gun powder, one 2-foot long safety fuse, and a handheld radio set with charger.
As per sources, 7.62x51 mm rounds are mainly used in MMG and sniper rifles like M24 as well as variety of assault rifles while 7.62x39 mm bullets are mainly used in assault rifles like AK rifles.
