Imphal, January 15 2025:
Lok Sabha MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam on Wednesday rebutted chief minister N Biren's allegations that the two Congress MPs from the state have failed to raise the state's core issues in Parliament.
In a Facebook post, Dr Bimol criticised the chief minister for presiding over a period of chaos and lawlessness, while questioning his governance and ability to address the state's ongoing crisis.
Dr Bimol highlighted issues plaguing the state, including deaths, societal chaos, economic hardships, and a climate of intimidation, asserting that these are the real "core issues'" affecting the state.
He accused the CM of operating under "instructions from the high command" akin to colonial rule and criticised him for withdrawing from a visit to a bereaved family from his own community on similar directives.
The Congress MP also questioned the chief minister's inability to navigate the state during critical times, despite being the head of the government.
Calling for unity and sincerity, he urged the CM to convene an all-party delegation to collectively engage with the Government of India.
He stressed the importance of seeking an audience with the Prime Minister to address the suffering of the people and to work together to save Manipur, and urged the CM to seek an appointment with the PM.
The statement comes in response to Biren's Tuesday remarks, where he accused the Congress MPs of failing to address key issues such as border fencing, the Free Movement Regime, and the identification of illegal immigrants.
Speaking at a party event in Imphal, the CM claimed that the BJP was the only party capable of "saving" Manipur, along with asserting that without the BJP at the Centre, the state would disintegrate.
Biren also criticised the Congress party for its silence on former Union Minister P Chidambaram's now deleted post on X, alleging that Congress has failed to provide any clarification on the matter.
