Kangpokpi, August 14 2021:
Non-SoO group, Kuki National Front (KNF) on Saturday announced boycott of India's 74th Independence Day and declared total shutdown in all Kuki inhabited area of the state.
The outfit's information and publicity secretary Jerix Vaiphei stated that there will be total shutdown in all Kuki inhabited areas in Manipur including commercial activities, civiladministration and educational institutions from midnight of August 14 till 6 pm of August 15.However, most essential and emergency services including medical service will be exempted from the purview of the total shutdown, he added.
The group further said that the government of India has been ignoring the inherent rights of the Kukis and the demand for a separate state while adding that the Kukis are distinct indigenous people in the land of their settlement.
It continued that the mighty Kuki warriors sacrificed their precious lives in defending their ancestral land while many of their leaders were arrested and killed, however the government of India fails to recognise the sacrifice and contribution of the Kukis in defending the ancestral land and keeps neglecting their long cherished demand.
The outfit added that until and unless the government paves the way for creation of Kukiland, the non-SoO Kuki National Front will continue to boycott the national event.
