Tamenglong, July 14 2015 :
A ray of hope appeared to the people of Tamenglong as the newly elected Members of the 5th Autonomous District Council Tamenglong took oath in the presence of local people on Monday.
The oath taking ceremony of the newly elected Members of the 5th Autonomous District Council Tamenglong was held at the conference of the Autonomous District Council Tamenglong and oath was administered by M Luikham, IAS, and Deputy Commissioner Tamenglong.
Surprisingly, only 13 elected members of 24 members came to take oath taking ceremony.
All 10 Congress elected members and one Independent elected member failed to turn up for the ceremony.
Just after the swearing ceremony, a press conference was organized by newly formed 'Democratic Alliance of Tamenglong ADC' and demanded resignation of Deputy Home Gaikhangam.
State BJP executive member Samuel Jiandai said Gaikhangam who is in charge of Home and hill affiars is from Tamenglong district, but he is not efficient and not working for the welfare of the district and so he should tender his resignation on moral grounds.
Through the media, he also appealed to the Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam to work for the welfare of the people in case if he is not willing to resign.
The name 'Local Self Government' has been badly tarnished by Congress Government as the party shifted the local self government to valley (Imphal) and all development funds were finished there, Jendai allaged.
Appealing to the people to give full cooperation to the Democratic Alliance of Tamenglong ADC, Jendai further said that the NDA Government at the Centre will soon give 6th schedule demand to the Autonomous District Councils.
"Let us joint hands together and work for change and development for Tamenglong", Samuel Jendai urged.
Manipur NPF unit president Awangbou Newmai also spoke at the press conference and said that Manipur state has two types of administration-one in valley and one in hill districts.
However, very people knew it, he said.
"Knowing all factors, NPF and Bharatia Janata Party (BJP) Tamenglong has formed the 'Democratic Alliance of Tamenglong ADC," Awangbou said.
Deputy Commissioner Tamenglong M Luikham said that it was a red letter day for the people of Tamenglong and very auspicious day for the elected members of the 5th Autonomous District Council Tamenglong.
Encouraging the newly elected members, M Luikham said, "We look forward to functioning of the local self government to bring about change and development from the grass roots level.
"I believe that real democracy will function in Tamenglong district.
Being people's representatives, work for the welfare of the people and do not work against the people's aspiration," he appealed.
