Imphal, June 14 2014 :
The implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in the State has been dragging on because of unwanted meddling, especially by MLAs and Pradhans, said Meihoubam Rakesh, Director Human Rights Law Network (HRLN) on Saturday.
Rakesh was speaking as a resource person on the topic "Ways and Means for Claiming Rights of Job Card Holders under MGNREGS' at a one-day 'Capacity Building Workshop on Use of RTI & Implementation of MGNREGS" organized by HRLN at Lamyanba Shanglen at Palace Compound here.
The human rights activist further said under the scheme 100 days' work is provided to rural people who hold the job cards, but the implementation of this fine scheme has been dragging on because of unwanted interference by MLAs and Pradhans.
Chongtham Momon, Advocate, High Court of Manipur who participated in the workshop as one of the resource persons spoke on "Prospects & Problems in the implementation of the Right to Information Act, 2005" .
Advocate Momon said that one Public Information Officer must be appointed for every Government Department in the State to give right information sought by any individual under RTI.
But here in the State, the RTI is nothing but an Act introduced for earning money, Momon charged while expressing resentment over the abolition of the State Information Commission.
Senior advocate Khaidem Mani moderated the deliberation.
