Imphal, February 14 2025:
Terming imposition of the President's Rule (PR) in Manipur as a necessary intervention, albeit long overdue, Kuki Inpi, Manipur (KIM) asserted that neither the resignation of N Biren Singh nor the invocation of the PR shall alter their resolute demand for a separate administration under Article 239(A) of the Constitution of India.
In a release, KIM information and publicity secretary Janghaolun Haokip alleged that the collapse of law and order under the state government, led by N Biren, resulted in the irreparable suffering of the Kuki-Zo people.
"For decades, the Kuki-Zo people have endured systemic discrimination under the Manipur administration, affecting every aspect of our lives, including development, education, healthcare, and basic governance" .
"The tragic loss of hundreds of lives including the horrific rape and mutilation of our people, the widespread destruction of villages, and the forced displacement of thousands stand as undeniable evidence of the injustices inflicted upon our people.
The continued subjugation of the Kuki-Zo people under a discriminatory state government has made it abundantly clear that co-existence with the Meetei-dominated administration is no longer a viable option," it said.
KIM also emphasised that the invocation of the PR, while a step forward, does not resolve the deep-rooted crisis.
True justice can only be achieved through the full recognition of the Kuki-Zo people's rights and privileges as citizens of India - by granting a separate administration that ensures our security, dignity, and rightful governance.
"Furthermore, we call upon the Government of India to exercise restraint and fairness in dealing with our village volunteers who are defending our ancestral lands and communities.
The Kuki-Zo people have always abided by the Constitution and laws of the country, and we expect the same fairness and justice in return from the Government of India".
"Additionally, we demand accountability regarding the more than 5,000 government firearms and over 6 lakh rounds of ammunition that have reportedly been handed over to the Arambai Tenggol," it claimed.
KIM maintained that these weapons allegedly have been persistently used in attacks against the Kuki-Zo people.
The responsible authorities must be held accountable for the grave security threat posed by these arms falling into the wrong hands, exacerbating the violence and suffering inflicted upon our community.
"We urge the Government of India to acknowledge the irreversible damage done and take urgent steps toward a just and lasting solution through the rightful establishment of a separate administration for the Kuki-Zo people.
The survival, dignity, and aspirations of our people must not be compromised any further," it further said.
