Imphal, January 14 2025:
Strongly condemning the statements made by minister Govindas Konthoujam, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has stated that the ruling government should stop blaming its incompetence on the preceding government.
It then expressed its doubts that BJP, whose ministers and MLAs are even unable to meet the PM, would be able to solve the conflict anytime soon.
In a press mee t held at Congress Bhavan here on Tuesday, MPCC spokesperson Hareshwar Goswami condemned the statements made by former MPCC president and currently BJP minister Govindas Konthoujam, accusing the Congress of prolonging the conflict till 2027 in view of upcoming elections.
He (Hareshwar) termed the statements as reckless and embarrassing for a turncoat to make, stating that the government's actions till date are akin to adopting the policy of the Nazis.
Hareshwar continued that ever since the conflict broke out, the Congress Party has been trying its best to end the conflict and will continue to do so.
However, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been inconsistent on the cause of the violence, sometimes blaming the ST demand of the Meeteis, and at others the influx of illegal immigrants, or ethnic violence, he jibed.
Similarly, CM Biren also attributes the conflict to failure of law and order and then blames it on his predecessors.
"If the Home Minister believes the conflict is an ethnic violence, the formation of a commission of enquiry is questionable," he said, while remarking that minister Govindas seems to lack any knowledge about the conflict.
Maintaining that Congress did not win the two Lok Sabha seats by deception but due to the people refusing to believe in BJP's fake propaganda, the MPCC spokesperson said that it is ridiculous and rather careless of the BJP to claim that the conflict was caused by Congress which only has five MLAs.
"BJP's act of continuously blaming Congress, when the former has the control of the forces and the machinery, simply proves that it (BJP) is unable to end the violence.
Thus, he expressed his doubts that the BJP government would be able to solve the conflict when its ministers and MLAs cannot even obtain an appointment to meet the PM".
Hareshwar continued that the crisis in Manipur was caused by BJP and not Congress, stating that the violence was caused by 10 BJP MLAs demanding separate administration.
"As such, it is questionable why the government is unable to take any action against the demand, which is dripping with violence.
BJP's failure to take action against its own MLAs indicates that it caused the conflict," he asserted.
Questioning why the SoO militants are being allowed to roam freely, the MPCC president alleged that BJP broke the SoO ground rules in the ADC and general assembly elections.
"The government claims it proposed for abrogation of SoO, but has not pushed the matter any further.
Instead, it is being double-faced in front of the people," he remarked.
