'Memorial stone of Thangal General to be erected'

Imphal, January 13 2015: A memorial stone of Thangal General would be erected at Thangal Ecology Park in Senapati district, announced N Rajen, president of Information Centre for Hill Areas Manipur (ICHAM) .

He was attending inauguration function of a six-day long Sports Meet of Thangal Students' Union at Mapao Village on Tuesday.

N Rajen who was the chief guest on the occasion said that Thangal Ecology Park is one of the most important places of the State given its historical value while asserting that condition of the park has been improved following its renovation work.

Lauding the Thangal Students' Union for coming up with the Sports Meet to encourage sports players and youths, he said that many sports players from different villages are participating in the meet which is a good sign.

Students of the State who clinched medals in various events in championships are felicitated by the government in recognition of their achievements.

The government should also ensure future and security of students by investing money, the president of ICHAM said.

Observing that there is a need to construct more playgrounds in order to nurture young and talented sports players, he added that the government should also avail certain facilities like accommodation and diets for sports players of the State.

Kenn Raikhan, social worker who was present at the occasion as guest of honour stated that one could lead a satisfactory life if he could fetch achievement in the field of sports while adding that many sports players of the State are looking after their families by money they earned from the field.

Lamenting that hill districts of the State lack sports infrastructure which needs to be fulfilled, he called upon sports players of the State to put in hard works and bring more laurels to the State.

Today's function was also attended by Dr Chand Thangmi, president of Thangal Students' Union as president.

Cultural performances were also showcased during the first day of the Sports Meet being organized by Thangal Students' Union.
