NIA to probe ambush on ADC member, state security force in Ukhrul district

The cases of killing of Ukhrul ADC Member Ngalangzar Malue by unknown armed assailants and the recent ambush on state security convoy at different points on Imphal-Ukhrul road leading to the killing of one personnel of Manipur Police Commando and injuring two others will be handed over to National Investigation Agency (NIA) for investigation.
A meeting of the State Cabinet held today at the Chief Minister's Secretariat with Chief Minister O.Ibobi in the chair took the decision of handing over the cases to the independent agency NIA to enable the authority to take future course of action.
Informing this to media, Education and CAF & PD Minister Moirangthem Okendro, who is also the Government spokesperson, recalled that armed militants killed Ngalangzar Malue at Finch Corner on July 12 while he was proceeding from Imphal to his home village in Ukhrul to see his ailing mother.
Later on September 9 last, unidentified armed persons led ambush on the state security forces at two different places along Imphal-Ukhrul road leading to death of one IRB personnel and injury of two police commandos, he recounted.
The first ambush happened when a CDO/MR/IRB combined convoy was returning from Ukhrul town to Imphal after their prolonged duty.

Thotyo was killed at the ambush, while 5 vehicles destroyed, he said, while adding that in the second attack, the armed militants ambushed a convoy coming from Imphal to Ukhrul at Thawaitangkhul Village and led to injury of two commando personnel.
The State Government would urge the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India to take up the cases relating to these incidents, added the Minister.
According to M.Okendro, the State cabinet also decided to grant ex gratia payment of Rs.5 lakhs to the family of the deceased IRB personnel and Rs.1 lakh each to the two wounded police commandos.
