Cops to grill three held in cash-for-CM post case

Imphal, March 12 2025:
The three individuals arrested for impersonating Union Home Minister Amit Shah's son Jay Shah, in a fraudulent scheme targeting MLAs in Manipur have been remanded to police custody for six days.
They were presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Imphal West on Wednesday.
According to the investigating officer (IO), the case was initiated following a complaint by Mayang Imphal MLA Kongkham Robindro on February 15 at Imphal police station.
The complaint alleged that an individual, posing as Jay Shah, contacted one of his cousins and assured him that MLA Robindro would be appointed as the chief minister.
A case was registered under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for cheating and impersonation.
The three accused have been identified as Uvais Ahmad (19), son of Sagir Ahmad from Nidhauli Kalan, Etah district, Uttar Pradesh; Gaurav Nath (19), son of Bahadur from Sapera Basti Gharoli, Ghazipur, East Delhi; and Priyanshu Pant (19), son of Basant Bhallav Pant from GD Colony, Mayur Vihar Phase-3, East Delhi.
A team from Imphal PS, after obtaining an arrest warrant from the CJM, Imphal West, and securing approval from the CJM of Udham Singh Nagar, arrested Uvais Ahmad and Gaurav Nath on March 5.Priyanshu Pant was apprehended on March 7.The three accused were brought to Imphal on Tuesday morning.
During the court proceedings, the IO sought seven days police custody for further investigation.
After considering the report and submissions by the assistant public prosecutor, which indicated that the mobile phones used to make the fraudulent call to MLA Robindro's cousin belonged to Uvais Ahmad, the court granted police custody of the accused for six days, until March 17 .
