Poor brave amputated girl and her desire for higher education

A brave, strong, committed and determined girl of 16 years whose legs were amputated four years back in a fatal bomb blast incident is fighting against all odds only to study at a college here by staying with her cousin sister.
In spite of her amputated legs, Miss Chongngaichoih Gangte D/O L.Manjou Gangte, who was a former AR rifleman posted in Punjab came all the way from Mualnuom Village of Tipaimuk sub-division to Lamka in Churachandpur district for study.
She is now studying in class XI in a leading college in Lamka.
When mediapersons along with members of Churachandpur MACR team visited her to take stock of the situation with the objective of helping the poor girl, it was found that she was staying with her cousin sister at the V.K.Tona Collage, Lamka.
She has been withstanding many obstacles and stigmatizations while walking through her limbs.
Miss Chongngaichoih Gangte lost her limbs while she was around 12 years and staying along with parents at the posting of her father in Punjab.
One day his father L.Manjou Gangte brought home a discarded plaything for her daughter, which unfortunately turned out to be a bomb.
As the seemingly harmless thing fell on the rock, it exploded like anything leading to amputation of the innocent girl legs besides injuring her parents.
Her father's eardrum was damaged and her mother also hurt seriously in the explosion.
During the media visit yesterday afternoon, the principal of her college told the team that as per the college record the age of the girl 16 years and she is a juvenile.
Chongngaichoih Gangte, the eldest among six siblings has the urge to become an officer and to help the other siblings.
This has been the motivation behind her withstanding all the obstacles of life to study after she completed her class X in Jiribam.
Seeing the plight of the girl and her determination, the principal of V.K Tona College admitted her in the college in Commerce Stream.
He also procured an aid for use of the girl.
The principal said, 'as this may not be the last student who needs the aid in the college, we have to procure aid materials for the unfortunate student like her'.

Meanwhile, the CO of Khuga Battalion under Red Shield Division along with the battalion Doctor, also visited the girl today and promised to give uniforms free of cost and other study materials immediately.
He also stated that he will try to get an artificial legs for the girl through the Jaipur based 'Jaipur foot'.
The story of Chongngaichoih Gangte has also brought to light the important of having disabled friendly School, College and Hospital in the district.
