Humanity way above politics in fighting Covid-19: MLA Khashim
Source: Chronicle News Service / R Lester Makang

Ukhrul, June 11 2021: An atmosphere of panic and privation seemed to be clouding across majority of the district's villages.

Writ large on their face was trepidation of being neglected or left to fend for themselves in the current second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

So, it was nothing less than a divine intervention for the village folks in the district's Sagolmang areas when a helping hand driven by altruism, came knocking at their door.

Chingai MLA Khashim Vashum, who's currently on a mission travelling across the district's remote villages to connect with the rural folks in the ongoing battle against the virus, illustrated how politicians could rise above the petty politics and embrace humanity in their people-oriented services in such critical situations.

On Thursday, he toured around Sagolmang area on his first leg of a two-day trip and visited and extended equal assistance package to ten villages including those that are not under his own Chingai assembly constituency.

Steering clear of political intentions, Khashim said: "I'm doing this out of humanity to make the villagers feel connected and cared for in this time of the pandemic" .

"Humanity comes way above any political considerations in this fight and I have no political agenda whatsoever," he asserted.

MLA Khashim said that he toured the remote villages on Covid crisis to also help the local Covid Task Forces (CTFs) coordinate with the Medical Department and the authorities concerned to meet the challenges of the battle.

He also handed out boxes containing Covid-related items like hand sanitizers, masks, oximeters, snacks and money to meet the needs of Covid exigencies to the local CTFs, village authorities and PHSCs in Champhung, Tora Ato, Tora Aze, Maichon, Kachai, L Phungdhar, Hoomi and Hoomi Vokngayar villages and also Sanakeithei and Leisan villages.

Much to the delight of the locals, the MLA also donated 30 sets of solar street lights to the villages to ameliorate the hardships of the villagers.

"I don't care whether the villages come under my constituency.

I want them all to be happy, feel motivated to fight the virus and stay safe," he continued.

He said that he understood the hardships being endured by small villages he himself came from a small village and that helping the needy should have nothing to do with any political point scoring.

Khashim also urged the villagers not to panic over the pandemic but to religiously follow the safety protocols laid down by the government.

At the same time, he reiterated his appeal to the villagers to always stay spiritually connected with the Almighty.

"He is a living God and only He can give us the ultimate protection," he pleaded.

The MLA was accompanied by LM block SDO Nimmi Kharang and former Ukhrul ADC member Thuingahan Pheirim and others.

Continuing his touring mission, MLA Khashim on Friday visited Peh, Phungcham, Paorei and Halang villages as part of his second leg of the journey.

He extended similar assistance package to the local CTFs and PHSCs in the villages.

Intercessional prayers marked a significant highlight of the two-day long tour.
