Nagas allege Kuki encroachment

Imphal, November 10 2011: Informing that Kukis from Kangpokpi area have forcibly encroached upon the land of a Naga village called Chawangkining under Kangpokpi sub-division of Senepati district; Southern Senapati Naga Villages Council has drawn the attention of government of Manipur for taking up necessary steps to prevent unwanted incidents.

In a statement, Publicity Secretary of the Council M Charingam conveyed that when the chief of Chawangkining village questioned the encroaching Kukis, one of their leaders replied that SHDDC has instructed them to settle down at Chawangkining village.

The encroaching Kukis have also loaded down various materials to construct their houses without any permission from the land owners.

It is unfortunate to learn that SHDDC has invited another civil war between the Kukis and the Nagas, the Council lamented.
