Kpi, August 09 2018:
The Kuki Inpi Manipur has extended its sincere gratitude to the Kuki people for their overwhelming response and unstinted support to the Kuki Inpi Manipur's call for a 24 hour general strike in all the Kuki inhabited districts and areas of the State.
Lal Robul Pudaite, general secretary, KIM said that the strike was called as a mark of protest following the denial of justice by successive Governments at the Centre and the State to the victims of the Kuki Genocide of 1992-1997.He continued that the Kuki Inpi's strike was not just a routine general strike that the State is accustomed to but it was in fact a 'cry for Justice' for more than 900 innocent Kuki civilians who were brutally and systematically annihilated in the genocide, for the 360 villages destroyed, and more than 1 lakh displaced and rendered homeless in complete violation of the Right to life and personal liberty and the Right to property, enshrined in the Constitution of India.
"What is even more appalling in this whole ordeal is the Government of India's brazen attempt to appease the aggressor/the perpetrator of the genocide and ignoring the victims even after a period of 25 years where justice is nowhere near for the Kukis", he asserted.
While expressing its highest indebtedness to the nameless volunteers, who responded to the call, and who worked tirelessly in manning the highways along the major district roads of the State, KIM also acknowledged the commendable role played by the womenfolks, who stood shoulder to shoulder during the strike.
The Kuki Inpi Manipur is also full of appreciation for its federates/frontal organizations - the leaders of District Kuki Inpis, KSO, KCA, KKL, KSDC, KOHR KWOHR, KWU, KSCF, KNT for taking the lead and shouldering the responsibilities in each of the Kuki inhabited districts areas, it further added.
KIM also conveyed its gratefulness to its cognate organizations - the Hmar Inpui, the Zomi Council, and the Mizo People Convention, the Hill Tribe Council (Moreh) for the unflinching support they rendered towards the cause and success of the general strike.
However, it expressed regret to the general public for the inconveniences caused by the total shutdown and appealed for their understanding.
It said that KIM is not against any community of the State and does not bear or harbour ill-will/animosity against anyone while adding that it is the standing demand of the Kuki Inpi Manipur that justice should be delivered to the victims of the Kuki genocide without any further delay.
