Imphal, December 08 2024:
Demanding restoration of peace and normalcy in Manipur, members of 10 political parties of Manipur under INDIA Bloc are all set to stage protest in New Delhi on Monday even whether the authorities grant permission or not.
Informing media persons about the protest, MPCC chief spokesperson Hareshwar Goswami said INDIA Bloc parties of Manipur are demanding return of all the people displaced by the 19-month-old violence to their respective homes, necessary entitlement to those killed in the violence and restoration of peace and normalcy in Manipur.
To highlight these demands, INDIA Bloc parties planned to stage protest at Jantar Mantar on December 6 but the protest was postponed due to some reasons.
However, members of INDIA Bloc parties have decided to stage protest on Monday at New Delhi whether the BJP government grants permission or not.
Some leaders of INDIA Bloc parties are already in New Delhi while all the five Congress MLAs have left Imphal on Sunday to join the protest, Hareshwar Goswami said.
According to Hareshwar Goswami, the violence in Manipur erupted due to failed policies of BJP government, and the BJP government both at the Centre and the state continue to give one version after another instead of resolving the crisis.
Among the different versions BJP gave about the violence, geo-politics is one of them.
While it is not new that both India and China are attempting to get their advantage by interfering into Myanmar, there has been no such grave failure of Indian foreign policy since getting independence and causing suffering to citizens of the country for a long time, he added, Meanwhile, INDIA Bloc members presently camping in the national capital convened a meet at Manipur Bhavan, New Delhi and discussed about Monday's protest.
The meeting presided over by MPCC president K Meghachandra and INDIA Bloc Manipur convenor Ksh Shanta decided to hold the protest from 1 pm Monday.
Shanta informed The People's Chronicle from New Delhi over phone that the protest will be against the silence of the Centre on the suffering of the people of Manipur for more than 19 months.
He said that Manipur is burning right now and the ongoing violence took lives of many people including women and children while nearly one lakh people are taking shelter at relief camps after their houses were razed.
However, the Government of India turns a blind eye to the suffering of the people while Prime Minister Narendra Modi is yet to speak about the violence or calm down the situation.
It has been a long demand of INDIA Bloc parties that either the PM visits the state to hear voices of the suffering people or call leaders of the state to New Delhi for talks.
INDIA Bloc parties even submitted a memorandum and urged the PM to visit Manipur before the end of the year and intervene directly to resolve the crisis, he said.
