JCILPS sticks to 1951 base year

The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) observed the 7th Lamjing Meira memorial event along with a public discourse on 'ILP System implemented in Manipur' at the final resting place of Sapam Robinhood at Awa Ching on Friday.
CSO members, families of late Sapam Robinhood, members of student bodies and people from different walks of life participated in the observance and offered floral tributes to Sapam Robinhood, who was killed in the movement for implementation of ILPS.
Speaking on the occasion, JCILPS convener Phulindro Konsam asserted that the committee will continue with its movement until their demands are honoured to protect the indigenous people of the state.
The Committee strongly condemns the cabinet decision to fix 1961 as the base year for defining native people, he said and reminded that it adopted 1951 as the base year to define native people after a series of public consultations.
As such, the committee cannot accept any individual, who entered the state after 1961 as the native people of the state, he said.
Sapam Robinhood was martyred in the movement for ILPS and the demands for setting up a population commission and updating the National Register of Citizen with 1951 as the base year are yet to be fulfilled, Phulindro said and reiterated that JCILPS will stick to its demand and continue to launch democratic forms of agitation.
JCILPS Women's Wing convenor RK Bino, consultants Yumnamcha Dilipku-mar, Ito Tongbram, Khomdram Ratan, Thiyam Bharat, and Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation president SK Wajid Shah also attended the event as presidium members.
Indian Red Cross society, Manipur State Branch provided assistance to the participants.
JCILPS Jiribam branch also observed Lamjing Meira Memorial Day at the conference hall of AMSU District Committee, Jiribam on Friday.
Members of the committee's Jiribam branch, CSO & Meira Paibi leaders and different student bodies offered floral tributes to the photo of Sapam Robinhood on the occasion.
