Bandh to boycott Modi evokes mixed response

The 11-hour state wide bandh call given by the United Revolutionary Front (URF) asking the people of Manipur to boycott BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's visit to the state on Saturday evoked mixed response.
The main market Khwairamband in the capital Imphal remained close for the day due to the strike however a number of private vehicles could be seen moving in the city despite the bandh call.
Passenger vehicles were off the road and both the inter-district and inter-state bus services were suspended.
Nearly one lakh people defying the strike called by the little known militant outfit URF turned up to attend the first-ever public rally in Imphal by BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi at Langjing Achouba ground here.
The URF had called the 11-hour general strike asking people to stay indoors and boycott Modi's visit to Imphal.
In a statement, the outfit's publicity secretary, Sanajaoba Meitei, had accused the BJP party of repressing the people of Manipur for a long time.
