16th Finance Commission team arrives

Imphal, November 07 2024: A team of 16th Finance Commission led by its chairman Dr Arvind Panagariya arrived here on Thursday.

The team also includes Ajay Narayan Jha, Annie George Mathew and Manoj Panda.

After arrival, the team visited Kangla, Shree Shree Govindajee Temple, Khwairamband Ima Keithel and Marjing Ching, and met chief minister N Biren at CM Secretariat later in the day.

As per sources, 16th Finance Commission team will hold meetings with the chief minister, council of ministers and top government officials on Friday to discuss various schemes and projects to be taken up for the next five years effective from April 1, 2026 .

The state government will share details of funds provided by the centre for Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) along with proposing grant-in aid funds for works to be taken up in coming five years.

The Commission team is likely to meet various trade, industries and commerce, rural and urban local bodies and representatives of political parties, and visit work sites of specific projects implemented by state government and local bodies.

It may be mentioned that the 16th Finance Commission will make recommendation to the central government by October 31, 2025, which in turn will fix the fund for various projects and schemes to the state governments for next five years from April 1, 2026 .
