Woman collapses after taking ORS; student vomits after sipping Maaza juice

In two separate incidents, one woman collapsed after taking Oral Rehydration Solutions (ORS) and one student vomited several times after sipping Maaza Mango Juice on Wednesday.
Thuisongmei (30), wife of one Lucky of Ragailong in Imphal, is now undergoing treatment at JNIMS.
The other victim, identified as Thongam Nimaichand (21) from Bishnupur district's Loktak Project area, is said to be a student (III Semester) of DM College of Science.
The woman bought the ORS from a grocery shop of her locality at around 11 am.
She wanted the drink as she felt exhausted.
Thuisongmei fell unconscious after sipping the packaged drink.
But the ORS packet marked its manufacturing date as April 29, 2015.Meanwhile, Thongam Nimaichand drank the half bottle of Maaza juice which he bought from a shop located near DM College.
He started vomiting after drinking it, his father Thongam Ibohal said.
A press meet was held at the office of Democratic Students' of Alliance, Keishampat in connection with the incidents.
DESAM General Secretary Pukhrambam Premchand said such cases had also been reported in the State before and condemned the responsible authorities for allegedly failing to check selling of food items by violating the Food Safety and Standard Act.
He appealed to the Government to take stringent action against those who are selling food products beyond expiry dates.
DESAM will start a drive on Thursday against retailers and wholesalers to prevent selling of food items which are unhygienic, Premchand announced.
