Loyola School plants trees with Senapati Forest Division

Loyola School, Li-yai organised a tree plantation drive around its school campus in collaboration with Senapati Forest Division on the last day of the 73rd Van Mahotsav.
Ex-ADC member of Liyai DCC Thaikho Peter, Liyai Range forest ranger Benjamin and other forest department officials took part in the plantation drive.
Delivering the welcome address, Loyola School principal Fr Joram highlighted the importance of planting trees and called for spreading awareness about the life-giving trees to all sections of the society.
The principal also urged all students to act as climate activists as they grow up.
Rakovei, a class VII student of the school, said that the need for food, water, shelter and other things depend on the environment around us.
Human society is responsible for degrading the natural environment, the result of which is causing serious health impact on humans, pollution, over population, waste disposal, climate change, global warming and green house effects.
Due to human activities, the planet has reached unsustainable level, which is of grave concern for all, the student further said and urged all to work together towards a greener and more sustainable future.
Speaking on the occasion, Senapati Forest Division DFO D John Sha, informed that as a part of the environment campaign, the Forest Division has been organising awareness programmes and carrying out tree plantation drives in villages.
Preserving forest is the only way to get sufficient water at a place.
Forest gives not only water and good air but also provides good soil, nutrients, etc., making the soil fertile.
As the population increases, demands from forest products increase day by day, the DFO elaborated while asking all to realise the need to protect forest and environment before one's life become a threat.
More than 200 tree saplings were planted on the day.
The plantation was conducted under the theme, "One student, One tree" .
