The driver involved in the alleged hit and run case of a Centre for Research on Environmental Development (CRED) sweeper, was released on a bail bond of Rs 30,000 yesterday.
The accident occurred on March 5, at around 5 am, when the victim, identified as Toijam Tampha (35) w/o Sanathoi of Kiyamgei Khoirom Leikai, was cleaning the road at Singjamei Bazaar.
She was knocked down by a speeding black colour Honda City coming toward Singjamei from Chancipur side along the National Highway 102, and was killed istantaneously on the spot.
Soon after the incident, the Honda City fled from the spot in toward Pishumthong.
A team of Singjamei police station, lead by its OC, arrived at the incident site and carried out the inquest of the dead body before depositing it at RIMS morgue for post mortem.
A Sou moto case was also registered.
Soon after the incident, CRED workers blocked the road near the incident site demanding the arrest of the driver involved in the hit and run case.
MLA of Keirao A/C, L Rameshor and MAHUD Minister, Th Shyamkumar, also arrived at the incident site.
Singjamei Police team arrested the driver involved in the hit and run case apart from recovering the car on the same evening, from Churachandpur with the help of the district police and brought back the arrested driver and the Honda City car to Singjamei PS at around 9.40 pm.
The arrested driver has been identified as Mathew Thangminlen Haokip (32) s/o Zamkhai Kuki of Tuibong Khopi Veng, Churachandpur.
He was produced before the Duty Magistrate by the IO of the hit and run case yesterday, with a prayer judicial custody remand till 20 March.
On the other hand, the counsel of the accused driver filed a bail application before the Court.
The Court, registered a cril misc bail case and heard the APP of the State and the counsel of the accused driver and went through the case record.
After hearing both the counsels, the Court released Mathew Thangminlen Haokip on a bail bond of Rs 30,000 with a surety like amount.
