Imphal, September 06 2018:
The CPI has strongly condemned the alleged verbal assault and robbery committed by NSCN-IM cadres upon a team of AMSU volunteers and artistes on September 3 at Nungba.
Speaking to media persons at Irabot Bhavan here today, CPI State secretary L Sotinkumar said that they were greatly aggrieved by such excesses committed by NSCN-IM.
It is a matter of grave concern that NSCN-IM cadres intimidated, used offensive words and robbed money from a team of AMSU volunteers and artistes at a team when the people of Manipur closely watching the changing dynamics of the Framework Agreement, Sotinkumar said.
Before the Nungba incident of September 3, there were many instances where NSCN-IM cadres exhorted from public transporters, harassed and physically assaulted transporters and general public on National Highways, he said.
NSCN-IM cadres have been operating openly at Oklong in Senapati, Buning in Tamenglong, Phungcham in Chandel and Ukhrul town as if they have designated camps there even though the cease fire agreement signed between the Government of India and the militant outfit does not cover Manipur, Sotinkumar said.
Silence and inaction of the Government of India and the State Government to the unlawful activities carried out by NSCN-IM is highly questionable, he said.
The CM's announcement that all those involved in the September 3 incident would be arrested is not enough.
There is a growing to establish a highway protection force in order to check such unlawful activities, he remarked.
He added that CPI is prepared to launch intense forms of agitation on the issue together with like minded political parties and CSOs.
