Ultimatum served over census exclusion

Various tribal organizations of the State jointly served an ultimatum to the Chief Minister against exclusion from figuring in the 2011 Census figure in respect of Mao-Maram, Paomata and Purul Sub-Division of Senapati district and pressed for resolving the issue by restoring the original census figure latest by August 31 .
The ultimatum was submitted to the Chief Minister of Manipur through the DC of Senapati today.
The tribal organizations have also threatened to take recourse to various democratic forms of agitations if the demands were not fulfilled within the stipulated time given and categorically stated that the State Government should be held responsible for any eventualities in this regard.

The ultimatum, which was signed jointly by representatives of Naga People's Organisation, Census Committee, Poumai Naga Union, Mao Council, Maram Union, Zeliangrong Union (Senapati Zone) and Thangal Naga Union, pointed out that the people of Mao-Maram, Paomata and Purul Sub-Division of Senapati district have been pursuing for restoration of 2001 original census figure.
The unjust denial of their very existence by excluding from the census report has greatly hurt the sentiments of the people.
The Chief Minister should resolve the 2011 census by restoring the original census figure as enumerated, latest by August 31, 2013, it demanded.
Prior to submission of the ultimatum through the DC, a public meeting was held at the MRNBA conference hall, Senapati under the auspices of NPO and it was backed by various CSOs based in the hills.
