Ukhrul, April 06 2015 :
Residents of Ukhrul Town are in an unenviable situation continuing to contend with power cuts even after consecutive two days of black out as defects in the transmission line remained undetected till now.
Informing that the power failure was due to certain problems under the 33 KV Substation, Yaingangpokpi, Imphal, MSPDCL Ukhrul Division head lineman Makanmi said that the breakdown was supposedly caused by the heavy storms that lashed different parts of the State on Saturday night last.
"Since the following day, a team of department staff from Imphal has been engaged in locating the points of defects but till now the same remain undetected," he said adding that transmission wires could have been snapped somewhere in between Yaingangpokpi and old Hundung Cement Factory.
"Until the defects are detected, there will be no power," he added.
However, the general manager and the deputy manager of the division were not available for comment.
Meanwhile, as the power outage has plunged the whole Ukhrul Town into total darkness since the past 48 hours, residents of Ukhrul have began cursing their fate.
"It has been quite a hardship facing power cut for such a long period, " rued Ashang, a resident of Phungreitang while another resident of Hamleikhong Chonshim said that "we have run out of fuel to burn oil fed lamps as solar lamp has also failed due to bad weather" .
