Ukhrul, September 05 2011:
The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has asked the public to refrain from indulging in mudslinging exercise in the media regarding the affairs of the ongoing UNC blockade imposed on the supply lines of Manipur.
"In case of any compliant or confusion regarding the blockade, the matter should be clarified in the relevant office," said TNL general secretary Dickson.
This statement came after the Total Bandh Monitoring Cell (TBMC) held discussion on Monday with members of the Ukhrul District Journalist Association (UDJA) and representative of The Dawn Tantak, a bilingual daily.
Monday's meeting between the TBMC and UDJA was prompted after The Dawn Tantak published a letter on August 31, which levelled allegation against the Ukhrul based organisation of illegally collecting money from commercial trucks in the ongoing blockade.
He stated that meeting was held to thaw any misunderstanding among the public and establish better understanding between the media fraternity and civil societies.
On the reports carried in the media on different issues, TNL general secretary said, "We do not consider it all wrong.
We are also receptive to constructive criticism" .
Dickson also admitted saying "It may not be proper to summon the media practitioners," while adding the public and media should be sensitive to the ongoing issue.
"If there is any misunderstanding among the community, it should first address at proper platform instead of highlighting it in the media" .
However, he stated that the Tangkhul frontal organisations have made it clear in the meeting to authenticate the identity of the letter writers.
