Imphal, July 05 2015 :
Protection of Agricultural Land and Natural Resources (PALNR) on Sunday discussed ways to conserve farmland during a huge meeting and launched a campaign towards that end.
The campaign cum meeting was held at Achanbigei, Khabam Lamkhai, Luwangshangbam, Kairang, Laipham Khunou, Koirengei, Lamlongei and Kontha Ahallup.
President of Awang Makei Umang Lai Kanba Lup, Nandalal Angomcha said the current situation in Lamlongei is undoubtedly very bad when it comes to loss of farmland of the area.
He exhorted all to stand together against changing the location name of Lamlongei.
Nandalal said despite implementation of Conservation of Paddy Land & Wetland Act, 2014, the State Government is still working on establishing the National Sports Academy at Yaithibi Loukol, an arable land area.
PALNR advisor Mutum Churamani demanded that the Manipur Government make amendments in the law which permits hill people as well as non-locals to freely reside in the valley and prohibits the people from the valley to move and settle in the hill districts.
Warning against construction of structures in arable areas, Churamani sent a strong message to wealthy individuals to immediately stop grabbing of farmland to establish settlement.
No one will be allowed renaming of streets and localities in the valley, he stated and warned that those who are trying to proceed against the decision should own up responsibility for any unpleasant incident.
Churamani announced to continue the campaign in every nook and corner of the State.
