Mankind should never challenge nature: Biswajit

While cautioning that mankind should never challenge the nature, forest and environment minister Thongam Biswajit has called for collective efforts to conserve nature.
Biswajit flagged off a bicycle rally organised by Paryavaran Sanrakshan Manipur in relation with World Environment Day observance from Kangla western gate on Sunday.
Die rally passed through Ima Keithel, Thangal Keithel, Khoyathong, Nagamapal, Keishampat, Keishamthong, Moirangkhom, Old Thumbuthongng and culminated at Brahmapur Nahabam Leikai Basketball ground, where Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker Th Satyabrata felicitated the participants.
Speaking on the occasion, Biswajit expressed concern over the impact of climate change that the state is witnessing and stressed the need for a collective effort to conserve nature.
The forest department has started a mission to revive water bodies and for this the department has identified around 1000 water bodies, many of which had be come extinct.
He also spoke about different sewage treatment plants to be taken up to prevent pollution of the major rivers of the state.
He further said that the government is planning to take up tree plantation drives in catchment areas of major rivers of the state including at Thangjing and Koubru hills.
MAHUD minister Y Khemchand, Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam and Thanga MLA Tongbram Robindro were also present at the event.
The Ideal Club, Sagolband Tera Keithel also organised a tree plantation programme around Tera Pukhri Achouba with support from local MLA Sapam Kunjakeshor (Keba).
They also released 3000 fingerlings in the community pond.
Lamlai MLA Kh Ibomcha also led a tree plantation programme at the office complex of SDO, SDC, BDO and sub-registrar at Sawombung on Sunday.
Directorate of Health Services and National Health Mission, State Health Society under the aegis of National Program on Climate Change and Human Health (NPCCHH) organised World Environment Day observance at family welfare training hall, RD Wing Complex here on Sunday.
Health services director Dr K Rajo, additional director (MD) Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang and NHM Manipur state mission director Dr Somorjit Ningombam attended the event as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Mao Poumai Baptist Church, Langol Housing Complex also observed the day under the theme 'Only One Planet' and sub-theme 'Caring for God's Creation' at the church complex.
Sunday school students who took part in varied events organised as a part of the observance worn green dresses to ring out the message of the urgent need to replenish the forests.
Manipur Technical University's Innovation Council, IIC MTU also observed the day at the university campus.
Meanwhile, M/s NRPS Agro organised a tree plantation programme at Lairen Sajik Mayai Leikai.
Kangla Acupressure, Alternative Therapy, Treatment Research & Training Centre, and Yoga Nature Cure Accupressure, Alternative Therapy & Research Centre also jointly organised the observance along with a tree plantation programme at the old age home located at Langjing Achouba.
