Imphal, August 04 2015:
Normal life was thrown out of gear as the 48-hour general strike called by the students' wing of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System began from 6 pm on Tuesday.
The students are protesting against the police brutality while trying to disperse students on Monday afternoon.
The student activists had tried to storm into the office of the Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro.

Women vendors, several persons who made purchases to tide over the 48 hours of gridlock, office goers, shopkeepers and others hurried home long before the strike began.
Heavily armed riot police were also deployed at all trouble prone areas.
Meanwhile, sit in protests, forming of human chains and torchlight processions continued in most of the four valley districts.
There is no indication that the government is not thinking in terms of pulling up those policemen who had allegedly thrashed girl students mercilessly.
Officials said that most of the offices will be deserted since the employees are not risking anything.
There had been reports that even the cars of some doctors who are on duty were damaged.
All inter state buses and trucks were also off the road.
Police are patrolling all vulnerable areas.
