Senapati, January 04 2025:
Naga People's Organisation (NPO), Senapati, has urged the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Kangpokpi, to refrain from imposing frequent and sudden blockades on vehicular movement along the National Highway-2 (NH-2), which is a crucial route for goods and passenger transport.
In a press release issued on Saturday, the NPO stated that while it respects CoTU's right to protest against the state or central government's inaction and injustice, such actions must not jeopardise the welfare of the Naga community in Senapati district.
The organisation then appealed to CoTU to uphold the rights and safety of the Naga people and ensure uninterrupted traffic flow on NH-2.The NPO expressed concern over the recurring disruptions caused by CoTU's blockades, noting the significant hardships imposed on the Naga population of Senapati district, which heavily depends on this essential route for daily sustenance.
Acknowledging the complexities and sensitivities of the ongoing conflict in Manipur, the NPO called for NH-2 to be maintained as a "safe zone" for free movement of goods, services and passengers.
The NPO also urged both the state and central governments to address the persistent insecurity along NH-2, despite the deployment of substantial security forces.
Highlighting the need for a collaborative and responsible approach, the organisation expressed hope for resolution and peaceful coexistence in the New Year.
It called on CoTU to act with consideration and responsibility to ensure peaceful coexistence.
