The time has come for farmers of the State to fight against deprivation of their rights and facilities and put in concerted efforts to maintain food security in the State, Mutum Churamani, Advisor of Protection of Agricultural Land and Natural Resources Organisation has exhorted.
Addressing a press conference at Manipur Press Club here today, Churamani said that the attempt of bigger States to cause impediments to other smaller States in their food productivity also needs to be condemned by all.
It will be a wise step for the State Government to take up prompt measures in this regard before the issues goes out of control.
Churamani informed that a day-long seminar on Protection of Agricultural Land and Natural Resources held recently with participation by many well known personalities including IAS officers had passed five recommendations and the same had been forwarded to the Ministers and concerned departments urging to act on them.
He maintained that there is a need to enact a policy on food security to accelerate agricultural products and cover its security and opined that farm land should be saved first of all if food crisis is to be avoided.
While urging the concerned authority to come up with corrective measures in consultation with intellectuals on the matter at the earliest, Churamani cautioned that further sidelining the land policy issue will invite public uproar.
Khumanthem Jila, president of Protection of Agricultural Land and Natural Resources Organization, who was also present during the press conference, pointed out that Article 13 of Food Security Bill ensures full protection of agricultural lands.
