The Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) today asked the DGP to direct the OC of Singjamei Police Station to register an FIR under appropriate provisions of law following the petition filed by one Waikhom (O) Abe Devi a resident of Mongsangei Mayai Leikai, Imphal West.
Abe in her complaint to MHRC stated that on the 27 July, 2020, she and her family members were assaulted by Akoijam Ibomcha who hails from the same locality.
The assault took place while Abe was burning some trashes near a tree.
She also stated that accused Ibomcha had punched her face.
Her complaint to MHRC also mentioned about physical assault inflicted to her husband, son and daughter.
As a result of the physical assault, they were taken to Urban Health Centre, Singjamei.
In this connection, a written report was also lodged at Singmei Police Station.
However, Police failed to register an FIR.
The complaint petition also mentioned that accused Ibomcha and Jemandar Akoijam Sashikumar who claimed to be the right hand man of a Minister had threatened Abe and her husband at Singjamei Police Station.
However, the OC did not intervene and instead remained a mute spectator, alleged the complaint.
In her complaint to MHRC, Abe stated that fearing for her family's life and safety, they took shelter somewhere and therefore, she has no other option except to seek protection from the Commission.
